Well thank god it’s Friday! I’m excited to have absolutely NOTHING to do this weekend. I think this is the first weekend in over a month that both of us are just going to be home, in the city, with no company in town and no major plans! I’m looking forward to spending some QT with my husband.
Tonight I’m going to make a nice, healthy Ina Garten recipe – Salmon with Lentils. I’m feeling the need for a bit of a cleanse as I’ve been indulging all summer! Last night we had guests in town from LA and we had a total drool-inducing meal at our favorite neighborhood Italian spot Il Posto Accanto. This was actually the scene of our third date way back when – and has remained a special little place for us ever since. Of course we ordered the homemade ricotta cavatelli – literally, the best pasta dish I think I’ve ever had in my life. It is served with spicy Italian sausage, perfect peas that burst in your mouth, mushrooms, a little white truffle oil and a deliciously rich cream sauce. Holy moly. This dish does the same thing to me that tasting a wonderful cheese does – it completely consumes me in a drug-like state of total yumminess. I’m such a dairy fiend!!
Speaking of wonderful cheese, I just got a bunch of awesome foodie/cheese books in the mail (research for our cheese movie… more on that later). So I plan on spending a good part of this weekend curled up on the couch reading about cheese. I’ll leave you with a quote from the first page of one of the books – The Guide du Fromage:
Cheese is a very delicate, sensitive subject… the soul, as it were, of the soil. – Pierre Androuet
God I love that.
