So yesterday I spent much of the day freezing my bum off outside of Barneys doing the time-lapse holiday window shoot. It was challenging and quite interesting and I’m excited to go back tomorrow with a little more experience (and warmer clothes) this time around. This here is Anthony Bourdain, who is part of the “bad boys of food” window, also featuring Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Guy Fieri, and Wolfgang Puck having a food fight! The artist, Liz Lomax, who makes these paper mache heads is amazing. We got to meet her when we shot the windows being built at the Barneys display studio. She is super talented and creative – and what an inspiration right? Who would think you could build a successful career out of making paper mache caricatures of celebrities?!
Speaking of celebrities…. apparently on Tuesday, Richard Gere and Harrison Ford were both spotted by the crew shopping at Barneys. I can’t believe I missed that! Yesterday we did see Vin Diesel get dropped off by his driver and emerge a couple hours later with about four bags full of stuff. Crazy.
Anyway, I’m already feeling better about things today… let the roller coaster of emotions keep rolling. I have so many friends who are in the same place as I am… trying to find and focus on their passions and trying to create careers and lifestyles that are productive, gratifying and actually enjoyable. I believe in it. I believe that life is short and precious and that it is a shame to spend the majority of it stuck in a place that’s not satisfying. It’s all an experiment in progress – but I like to think about it like this: in my career, I kept working and putting in effort and learning the business and I kept rising up the ladder and getting paid more and getting more respect from my peers. I can only assume, that if I put in that same work and effort and time into creating a life and business that works for me, I should achieve a similar success in due time. Right? If other people make it work, I can make it work. It’s just a theory – but I’m sticking to it for now.
Meanwhile, I’m excited to try out this new yoga studio in my hood – Yoga High (new for me at least). I’m going today at 4:30 for my first class in over two years. I can’t wait to loosen up the old muscles again!
See you tomorrow!
Nell,
Your Food Network shoots sound so fun! I’m so excited for you in so many ways. Your photography is gorgeous, and you have so much going for you, i just know you can create anything, and you will be successful.
Hope you enjoyed the yoga…the studio looks beautiful.
I have to tell you that almost every night now, I do the whole bedtime routine with Sophia, and after she’s all tucked in and just as I’m about to sing her the going to sleep song, she always says she’s suddenly hungry, and asks for apples and cheese or grapes and cheese. It’s starting to become part of the routine, which is so annoying, but I always have to laugh a little bit about it, and I think of you, since it’s always cheese. 🙂
Although, if you were her mom, I’m sure she’d get the good stuff!
Thanks so much Robin! We miss you guys… wish you were not so far away! That is so adorable about Sophie and the cheese! She’s a little cheese head like her auntie nell! 🙂
