A Little Sparkle…

Photo 242 out of 365 – “Gelt”

"Gelt" - Settings: ISO 800, f/6.3, 1/30 sec, 100mm macro lens

More fun with the macro lens!  It was around ten o’clock last night when I took my first photo…  I had attempted other photos earlier in the day but on my first trip out with my camera, I forgot I had taken out the battery to charge it.  Annoying.  Then, on my second trip out, I had the battery, but I forgot that I had taken the memory card out to load the photos to my computer.  Even more annoying.  Where is my brain?

One of our 365-ers recently blogged shamefully, that she had missed twenty or so days of taking pictures.  She was in a slump, not spending time on her photography and not proud of the photos she was managing to snap during the day, so instead of posting photos she wasn’t proud of, she just stopped taking them period.

I don’t really blame her at all.  This is quite a commitment and there are many days when I’m SICK of carrying this camera around my neck and schlepping it all around town with me.  There are also days when I’m not excited about any of my pictures and being a slight perfectionist, I hate posting something I don’t think is AWESOME.  But – I think I’m learning an important lesson with this project.  First – you have to cut yourself some slack.  We started this project for ourselves – to have fun, to become better photographers and to inspire creativity.  We are not getting paid, we did not promise perfection and the daily effort alone is something to be proud of.  It’s a good lesson to learn – as I often find that I have a tendency to be a little too hard on myself.  I think a lot of people are too hard on themselves… my fellow 365 friend included.

Anyway – here are a couple more pictures from last night – all rather sparkly and fun.

"Sequins" - Setting: ISO 6400, f/5, 1/30 sec, 100mm macro lens

Shot with the macro lens…

"Christmas Tree" - Settings: ISO 1600, f/2.8, 1/80 sec, 24-70mm lens (70mm)

Shot with a brand new super sexy Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L series lens, which now belongs to Adam’s company Bodega. LOVE IT!!!

  1. As a fellow 365er, I also sometimes feel uninspired, unmotivated and hate my pictures (total perfectionist syndrome), but I am very proud of all of us for taking on this challenge and practicing daily and getting better day by day.

BTW: That’s my next lens: Canon 24-70. I am very close to buying it.
